In Book X of Virgil’s epic poem the Aeneid, Turnus rallies his Latin army against the Trojans with this battle cry: “Audentis Fortuna iuvat!”
Unaware that he is not the hero of the story, Turnus doesn’t know how right he is. By Book XII his duel to the death with the legendary Trojan Aeneas sends Turnus packing to the Underworld.
Ever since, the phrase “fortune favors the BOLD” has enshrined the idea that success is not the result of random luck. Those who take BOLD action toward accomplishing their goals are more likely to achieve them.
Those who don’t risk a fate that is worse than death in the ancient Roman tradition: being forgotten.
This isn’t a lesson to take to heart in all areas of modern life. (We probably shouldn’t go around challenging people in duels to the death.) However, you better believe that in marketing you can’t count on Fortuna without a little audacia.
To succeed in a marketing landscape, you can’t let fear stop you from making a statement. It takes all the determination you can muster to bring your product to the market and say in a loud, BOLD voice:
“I belong here.”
But we don’t have to tell you that. You’re already doing it.
You’re already on your epic journey. You’re not afraid to enter the market and charge what you’re worth. You haven’t shied away from being a leader in your field.
There’s only one problem. If you’re not the hero of your story you can have all the swagger of Turnus and still lose to Aeneas. It turned out Aeneas was the BOLDest fighter on the battlefield. That’s why the story was written about him.
Q: Who’s the hero of your story?
A: The BOLDest producer in your market.
We’re here to make sure that’s you.
Vehicle wraps, wall wraps, larger-than-life designs make a statement. They make you the biggest fish in the pond, the crème of the crop, the fiercest warrior in the battle.
